Kashi Soft n' Chewy Bars

Kashi Soft n' Chewy Bars

Dietary Needs:
None

Kashi is a brand you might see in both conventional grocery stores and health food stores alike. In our opinion it isn't considered 'health food.' Kashi is becoming part of the non-GMO movement and seven of their products are GMO-free, but not these bars just yet. These soft bars are made with both fruits and veggies and are free of artificial ingredients. Each bar is topped with real fruit spread and nuts including 4g of fiber and 4g of protein. This banana bread flavor has dark chocolate chips and makes for tasty comfort food. We like that these bars are free of artificial flavors and preservatives, however they are made with soy protein isolate as well as evaporated cane sugar which makes them loose big points in our book. Only two stars here.

Navitas Maqui Powder

Navitas Maqui Powder

Dietary Needs:
Soy Free, Vegan, Dairy Free, Low Glycemic, Gluten Free

Maqui, (pronounced ma-kee) are little purple berries of the native Chilean evergreen shrub. For centuries, the Chilean Mapuche Indians have consumed this powerful antioxidant packed berry. To this day, they are one of the longest-living cultures in the world. With an amazingly high ORAC value, maqui berries are considered a 'superfood' because they offer more antioxidants than any discovered fruit with a particularly high potency of anti-aging flavonoids like anthocyanins and polyphenols. Recent studies have demonstrated these antioxidants to support a wide variety of bodily functions, including improved brain performance, heart health, liver strength, anticancer activity and as the Machupe Indians have proven, overall longevity. This powerhouse berry also offers a premium source of vitamin C, calcium, iron, potassium, and is a natural anti-inflammatory food. Because of the rich concentration of phytochemicals, even using just small amounts of maqui powder will vastly enhance the nutritional benefits of other foods or recipes. We love blending this in with smoothies and desserts.

BearNaked Soft Baked Granola Cookies

BearNaked Soft Baked Granola Cookies

Dietary Needs:
Soy Free

These cookies are made from whole grain oats, nuts and fruit. 100% of the ingredients used are pure and natural. We like that all of the ingredients are recognizable and pronounceable. These cookies are an upgrade from other processed and packaged cookies because they contain no artificial flavors, no preservatives, no cholesterol, no hydrogenated oils and no high fructose corn syrup. Each cookie has 9 grams of sugar and the third ingredient is evaporated cane juice which doens't really make them a 'health food.' These cookies are really soft and do taste great. We would love to see them come out with a version with all organic ingredients sweetened with fruit or honey.

BearNaked Cranberry Protein Trail Mix

BearNaked Cranberry Protein Trail Mix

Dietary Needs:
Soy Free, Vegan, Dairy Free

This 100% pure and natural trail mix is loaded with cranberries, sun-ripened raisins, walnuts, almonds and protein granola clusters. A Whole Journey cardinal rule is never combine fruit with grain since this combination can create fermentation and excess acid in the system. We do, however, like that this granola doesn't have any added sugar! While oats are naturally gluten-free, cross-pollination often results in cross-contamination of gluten into the oats, so we would love to see a 'gluten-free' version as well. This granola tastes great. Their products are made from pure and natural ingredients, but not organic ingredients.
