Aquafina is purified, reverse osmosis water. It originates from public water sources and is then purified through a rigorous, seven step purification process called Hyrdo-7. This process removes things like chloride, salts and other substances that can affect water's taste. Mineral water is always leaps and bounds better, cleaner and healthier but Aquafina's process is good. We are never thrilled with the plastic component of bottled water because of the environmental havoc it wreaks and because who knows how long those plastic bottles might have sat on a truck or in the sun and how much leaching occurred.
Annie's Goddess Dressing
When we don't have time to make our own dressing, this is one of our go-tos. Annie's Goddess dressing is made from tahini (sesame paste) so it gives you that rich, creamy consistency without the dairy. We love the lemon juice, cider vinegar, sea salt and herbs in this product but are a bit leary of the oil. They list (canola, soy and/or sunflower oil) on the ingredient list and we must say, we really don't like when companies do that because there is no way of knowing how much and what particular oil you are consuming. We dropped their rating when this change came and hope it doesn't stick. Nonetheless, of the dressing choices on the shelves, if you are not going to make your own, this is a good one. And no sugar on the ingredients list makes us happy.
Annie's Cowgirl Ranch
This is a huge upgrade from Hidden Valley Ranch or many other conventional ranch dressings because they do not use soybean, modified food starch, MSG or the long list of preservatives you find at the end of the ingredient list with conventional brands. They use less sugar than these other brands as well. What we love most about Annie's dressings are that they use apple cider vinegar in many of them. What we wish we could upgrade is the oil. They use high quality canola oil (expeller pressed) but it is not organic and we are concerned about the fast-growing genetic modification of canola (or the rapeseed plant, which is what it comes from). This dressing does contain sugar as well.
Annie Chun's Sesame Seaweed Snacks
Seaweed snacks taste so much better then they sound! Here’s your chance to discover a delicious new snack that’s full of flavor and chocked-full of vitamins and minerals. This roasted seasweed comes from Korea and is seasoned with salt and sesame seed oil. Sea vegetables are high in iodine, which is the ideal food to support a low functioning thyroid. Sea vegetables contain 10 to 20 times the minerals and vitamins of land vegetables. Gram for gram, they are higher in vitamins and minerals than any other class of food. They are also a good source of bioavailable iron. These truly have a delicious savory taste that makes for a perfect afternoon snack.
Anne's Cranberry Lime Kombucha
Kombucha Tea is a fermented probiotic drink made with a live Kombucha culture comprising of healthy bacteria, yeasts and other micro-organisms. We love the properties of Kombucha tea because it is a great way to alkalize the body and load up on probiotics. One bottle has 1 billion lactobacillius bacterium which will help keep the flora of the GI tract healthy and support healthy digestion and elimination. Kombucha Tea is detoxifying, loaded with antioxidants and great for a natural afternoon pick-me-up. Anne's Kombucha is uniquely made with flower essence which “incorporates the use of “chi” energies within living organisms.” While there are no additives or preservative in this beverage, it does contain evaporated cane juice so it looses a star for that reason. Note that kombucha tea is contraindicated for those struggling with systemic candida/yeast overgrowth.
